Alive

Twinkling in the dark night sky,

Lighting up the field of grass

With the help of the bright moon,

Were the stars.

They shone so brightly,

A sight you will never see in the city,

Dimmed by all the city lights.

The grass underneath me,

Green

But only green because I saw it in the daylight.

The wind ruffled the grass,

Stroking my dark brown hair,

Sending shivers down my spine

But not because its cold

But because it whispered to me,

Of stories, old and new

About long forgotten lands

And their legendary people.

I sat there engulfed

By the scent of the nearby eucalyptus trees,

Mixed with the strong smell of fresh grass,

By the sound of the blowing wind whispering its stories to me,

Entwined with the hoots of the owls,

And the chirping summer insects,

By the feel of the grass beneath me,

And the wind tickling me,

By the stars and moonlit night sky

And the shadows it cast upon every surface,

Ah, how great it is to be alive.
