The Soil from which We Came

Put your hands deep into the soil
Can you feel it breathe?
Is the moisture palpable?
Do you know that your soul is mirrored in the plants?
From a seedling in darkness to a rose in sunlight, that is you
And from a withering rose back to a seedling, that is you again

Do you believe in your power to grow, change seasons, to become?
Sometimes in life we are uprooted
We think we can never find home again
Don’t let that hopeless feeling convince you of a different story than the one nature tells
You will find home again
Send your tendrils deep into the wet dark soil
Again and again, until a skinny root latches itself into that great system of life
The one underground
To be once again a vital part of things

People often conflate wisdom with fortune
And success with abundance
They believe power is happiness
And marriage is love
But one does not equal the other without the ingredient of soul
Children are fluent in the language of love
Watch them play
They will gladly show you

As we get older, we forget, we confuse
The mother tongue of love
To find it again, that which you think you lost, you must go deep into the rich soil from which you came
To remember the humbling act of growth, change, and death again
just watch a leaf
There is all the wisdom you need
