My Venture As A Golf Company Entrepreneur

It was fun while it lasted

We made custom golf clubs and sold graphite golf shafts.

As an avid golfer since my college days, golf has been an important part of my life over many years. There was a time when my partners and I owned a golf business. It was my first venture into having a regular brick and mortar business of which I was the CEO. It was a lot of fun and a good learning experience.

The person who was selling the business had connections in Taiwan. He imported graphite golf shafts from Taiwan and sold them to companies which catered to golfers who made their own golf clubs. Two of the biggest customers were Golfsmith and GolfWorks. Those companies supplied products to people who wanted to make their own golf clubs. I attended classes at GolfWorks to learn how to make custom golf clubs.

Although there was some debt which came with the business, it seemed like it would be a good prospective business. We thought we could easily remove the debt and turn a profit because golf was a huge industry. We also extended the business to selling custom made golf clubs on a retail basis to golfers.

After operating the business for a while in California on a temporary basis, we moved the company to Utah which was my home. Another friend joined the business as a partner.
